A Pin Full of Pride: The Story Behind My United Kingdom Flag Enamel Pin

Designing and creating something from scratch is always a meaningful experience—but there’s something especially powerful about creating a symbol that holds deep national and cultural significance. That’s exactly what inspired me to design my own United Kingdom flag enamel pin. 

I wanted it to have the movement of a flag flying proudly in the wind, and the nostalgia of the RAF colourways or the gentle pastels of our brilliant beaches.

The Union Jack is more than a flag—it’s a bold, instantly recognizable emblem of unity, history, and identity. With my pin design I wanted to capture all of that power in a beautifully detailed, wearable piece of art.  Most of all i wanted it to be boldly, proudly and unapologetically British... I 

The Idea Behind the Pin

As a designer and proud UK-based creative, I’ve always been drawn to the graphic strength of the Union Jack. Its intersecting crosses, vibrant red, white, and blue, and layered symbolism make it one of the most striking flags in the world.

When I began sketching the pin, I knew I wanted it to be more than just a miniature flag. I wanted it to feel classic and high quality—something you could proudly wear every day, whether it’s on a backpack, jacket, lanyard, or your suit lapel.

Crafting the Details

Every part of the design was carefully considered—from the proportions of the flag to the enamel finish. I chose a hard enamel style for a polished, smooth finish that gives the pin durability and a premium feel. The colours are based on the vintage RAF logo for the red white and blue option and the softness of our coastal beaches for the pastel option. The colours really pop against the shiny gold base.

Each pin is made with care and quality in mind—I wanted this to be a piece you’ll wear for years to come.
